High Court rules on compensation to Raifa’s family

The High Court also asked why it should not order measures against the hospital and doctors for ‘negligence and wrong treatment’ and why there will not be any directive to draft policy for compensation in case of death or damage due to ‘negligence and wrong treatment.’

Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Husain and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir issued the rule on Tuesday following a writ petition filed by Raifa’s father Rubel Khan, a senior correspondent of Dainik Samakal’s Chattogram bureau.

The HC has asked the health secretary, the additional secretary (hospital) of the health ministry, the president of Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council, the managing director of Max Hospital and three doctors to respond in four weeks.

Raifa died due to wrong treatment at the hospital on Jun 29.

A week after her death, the Rapid Action Battalion raided the hospital and fined it for different irregularities, including non-renewal of the hospital licence, hiring doctors without appointment letters, lack of information about nurses and other staffs and absence of a blood bank.
