Information and Broadcasting Adviser Mahfuj Alam has emphasized that media freedom is meaningless without accountability to the people. Speaking at an iftar and discussion event organized by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at Tathaya Bhaban in Dhaka, he stressed the importance of responsible journalism.
During his address, Mahfuj criticized the media\u2019s role over the past 16 years, stating that journalist groups have been heavily influenced by business syndicates and political agendas. \u201cThis is an unfortunate reality for our nation,\u201d he remarked, highlighting the negative impact of such affiliations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The adviser also announced plans for upcoming media reforms, saying that discussions with stakeholders will be held in accordance with recommendations from the Media Reform Commission. These efforts aim to establish greater discipline within the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, Mahfuj assured that the government is committed to improving the financial well-being of media professionals, pledging to take necessary steps to enhance their wages and benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For true media freedom, he stressed the need for journalists to be free from the influence of media owners and editors. He called for the collective efforts of media owners, journalists, and other stakeholders to ensure a fair and independent press.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
