A group of people under the banner of “July Oikya” was stopped by police while marching towards the Indian High Commission in Dhaka’s Gulshan this afternoon, with several demands, including the return of deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina and others who fled there during and after the July uprising last year.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

everal hundred people had gathered at the Rampura Bridge area before starting the march at around 3:15pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the procession reached Uttar Badda around 4:00pm, police erected a barricade and barred the demonstrators from moving forward. The protesters later broke through the barricade but faced another stronger blockade. They eventually sat on the road, chanting slogans and delivering speeches through loudspeakers, the correspondent added around 4:15pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, the demonstrators had chanted slogans including “Delhi na, Dhaka; Dhaka, Dhaka” as they proceeded. Law enforcers were deployed along the route to maintain order.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
