The Democratic Rights Committee has called for the publication of a white paper detailing the activities of the recently dissolved interim government, demanding accountability for individuals accused of acting against national interests during this transition period.The demands were raised at the committee\u2019s general meeting on Friday, chaired by Professor Anu Muhammad, with details shared in a press release issued today.The committee strongly condemned what they described as the interim government\u2019s \u201carbitrary, hasty, and non\u2011transparent\u201d dealings with the United States, including a trade agreement they termed \u201cdisastrous\u201d for Bangladesh.The committee alleged such agreements undermine national sovereignty and risk making the country economically dependent on the US.It urged the elected government to withdraw from this \u201cillegal\u201d agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Concerns were also expressed over the appointment of a former adviser of the interim government to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, whom members identified as the architect of several \u201canti\u2011national\u201d agreements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They described the move as a major risk for the country.The committee further demanded investigations into post\u2011election violence and the reported gang rape in Hatiya. It also called for the release of members of the Bawm community, allegedly held on false charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among those present at the meeting were Liberation War activist Dipa Dutta, researcher Mahtabuddin Ahmed, writer Chowdhury Mufad Ahmed, trade union leader Satyajit Biswas, Democratic Student Union leader Dilip Roy, lawyer Alaudin Ahmed, filmmaker Akram Khan, rights activist Marzia Prava, among others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
