Bashundhara Shubhosangho has distributed sewing machines among 100 underprivileged women from remote hilly areas of Bandarban to create opportunities for self-employment and economic independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The initiative was implemented with support from Bashundhara Group as part of its ongoing sewing training and sewing machine distribution programme across different parts of Bangladesh. Each beneficiary received a sewing machine after completing training, along with two saplings as part of an environmental conservation message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The programme was conducted in five upazilas of Bandarban\u2014Lama, Alikadam, Bandarban Sadar, Rowangchhari and Ruma\u2014with 20 women from each upazila receiving the support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The final phase of the programme was recently held at the Munlai Para Cultural Centre in Ruma. Representatives of Bashundhara Shubhosangho travelled through remote hilly areas to distribute sewing machines among 20 women from both indigenous and Bengali communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ruma Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Manas Barua, Upazila Women Affairs Officer Md Zaved Rouzan, Ruma Agrabangsha Orphanage Director Naindia Ther, local para chiefs and BNP leaders were present at the programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In remote areas of Ruma, opportunities for education and employment remain relatively limited. Despite financial hardships, many women continue their studies while contributing to their families. Local residents said the training and sewing machines would provide the beneficiaries with new opportunities to earn an income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Naiuching Marma, who grew up at the Ruma Agrabangsha Orphanage after losing her parents at an early age, was among the beneficiaries. She said the sewing machine had strengthened her confidence to become self-reliant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI grew up in an orphanage from a young age. This sewing machine has given me greater courage to stand on my own feet,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another beneficiary, Chamaya Mro, is pursuing honours studies at Bandarban Government College while supporting her family through jum cultivation with her sister. Her father, Menoyang Mro, has died, while her mother is mentally ill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chamaya said the sewing machine would help her generate income while continuing her education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt will create a new source of income for me and help me continue my studies. I am very grateful to Bashundhara,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ruma OC Manas Barua described the distribution of sewing machines as a humanitarian initiative aimed at empowering disadvantaged women in remote areas. He said the programme would create opportunities for self-employment and enable women to contribute to their families\u2019 financial wellbeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Upazila Women Affairs Officer Md Zaved Rouzan said the training and sewing machines were helping women acquire skills and creating opportunities for employment and economic independence. He called for continuation of such initiatives for women\u2019s empowerment and social welfare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Naindia Ther, director of the Ruma Agrabangsha Orphanage, said the training and sewing machine distribution was a commendable initiative for disadvantaged women in remote areas. According to him, such support would enable women and adolescent girls to develop skills, pursue self-employment and contribute to their families\u2019 financial development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bashundhara Shubhosangho said more than 3,000 women across different parts of the country have already received training and sewing machine support through its initiatives. The programme for 100 women in five upazilas of Bandarban is part of the organisation\u2019s continuing effort to create opportunities for women\u2019s self-reliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
