Ziaul Haq, Field Kanungo of the Dhaka Divisional Estate Office, Bangladesh Railway. Complainants allege that taking advantage of being stationed in the same position for a long time, he obtained financial benefits through irregularities in leasing various railway lands and collecting revenue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is reported that Ziaul Haq has been serving as a Field Kanungo for nearly 20 years. While working in the Dhaka Divisional Estate Office, allegations were raised against him regarding the collection of money through irregularities in leasing and transferring railway land in various ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to available documents and complaint details, action was taken to lease railway land through public auction in Narayanganj, Gafargaon, and Sreepur based on letters signed by former Divisional Estate Officer Mohammad Nasir Uddin Mahmud on May 20 and August 20, 2025. Subsequently, Field Kanungo Ziaul Haq collected revenue for those lands as agricultural property on June 18, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Complainants allege that 25 years&#8217; worth of agricultural lease revenue was collected at once from Abdus Sattar of Sreepur, which requires investigation to determine if it complies with existing railway regulations. Similarly, allegations have emerged regarding the collection of 34 years&#8217; worth of revenue at once (from 1990 to 2024) for approximately 7,000 square feet (16 decimals) of railway land adjacent to the Arijpur Bridge in Tongi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, there are allegations of irregularities in commercially leasing railway agricultural land in the Karwan Bazar fish market area, which was later cancelled. Questions have also been raised by complainants regarding the issuance of agricultural licenses on the Chashara-Adamjee siding line and Godnail mouza under the Narayanganj City Corporation, where commercial structures and markets have reportedly been built under agricultural licenses. They demand an investigation into whether proper guidelines were followed for commercial land use and if the government received due revenue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ziaul Haq is also alleged to have been involved with the Railway Shramik League for a long time, holding an influential position during the Awami League government. Complainants claim that even after August 5, he continues similar activities using influence through dishonest officials. However, these allegations could not be independently verified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When asked about the allegations, Ziaul Haq told <em>RailNews<\/em>: &#8220;Mistakes happen to those who work. There will be mistakes in the department I work in. I won&#8217;t say all allegations are false. Let the department investigate and take action. Let them also investigate those who are working against me.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shimul Kumar Saha, Dhaka Divisional Estate Officer, said last Thursday: &#8220;Today is my last working day. I hope the incoming officer will look into the matter. If allegations exist and are proven, action will certainly be taken.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Upon hearing the allegations, Bangladesh Railway Director General Afzal Hossain told <em>RailNews<\/em>: &#8220;We maintain a zero-tolerance policy not just for Ziaul Haq, but for any officer. Action will be taken if allegations are proven.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, following a report published on October 19, 2025, in the national daily <em>Sore \u091c\u092e\u0940\u0928<\/em> regarding Ziaul Haq, the Divisional Estate Office issued instructions directing him to submit a written explanation within seven days. That document currently stands as evidence that the allegations were previously brought to the attention of authorities. However, the divisional officer took no action, allowing Ziaul Haq to continue alleged irregularities and corruption untouched.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Conscious citizens demand an independent investigation into Ziaul Haq&#8217;s long tenure in the same post, leasing documents, revenue collection records, relevant licenses, and ground realities to ensure transparency in railway property management, alongside administrative and legal action if proven guilty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Complainants also demand an investigation into alleged illegal assets accumulated in the names of Ziaul Haq and his family members, though no specific documents or public evidence supporting this claim have been independently verified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Demands have grown for relevant authorities to uncover the truth through document-based inquiries and take appropriate action to protect railway property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Special Correspondent Irregularities in Illegal Lease of Railway Land, Revenue Collection, and Property Management; Abuse of Power; and Unlawful Wealth Accumulation Serious allegations of irregularities in railway land leasing, revenue collection, property management, abuse of power, and illegal wealth accumulation have surfaced against Md.
