If voted to power, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman today said his party would firmly curb corruption and strictly maintain law and order.

“I want to clearly say that under the plans we have taken, if anyone breaks the law or creates obstacles through corruption, they will not be spared,” he said at a rally in Chattogram this afternoon.

He made the remarks while addressing a BNP election rally as the chief guest at the Polo Ground.

“There are two things BNP can do successfully. First is ensuring people’s safety, so that they can move freely, work and earn a living safely. When Khaleda Zia led the government in the past, you saw that no one was spared for wrongdoing, even if they belonged to our own party. If the people stand by BNP, we will again strictly control law and order so that ordinary people can live their lives without fear,” he said.

“No matter how many plans we make, if we cannot control this one issue, none of our plans will succeed. What is that? Corruption. BNP has proven in the past that it can control corruption. At any cost, the next BNP government will clamp down on corruption. These two are our commitments to the people,” he added.

Referring to past BNP administrations, Tarique said, “When Khaleda Zia took charge in 2001, she gradually pulled the country out of the grip of corruption.”

“This proves that the law is equal for everyone. An offender is identified by the crime, not by party identity. Whoever the offender is, action will be taken. Corruption will be dealt with the same way, no matter who commits it,” he said.

He also called on people to remain united and vigilant.

“In Chattogram, people from the plains and the hills live together. We want to build the country with everyone,” he said.

Urging voters to support the party, he called on people to place their trust in the BNP’s Sheaf of Paddy symbol.
