Staff Reporter:

A debate has emerged among a section of teachers and students of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) ahead of its 91st Syndicate meeting over the possible promotion of several teachers, particularly Associate Professors Dr. Masud Rana and Dr. Kamal Uddin of the Department of Human Resource Management.

According to university sources, allegations of irregularities related to OMR sheets in the admission process for the 2021–22 academic session had previously been raised against Dr. Masud Rana. An investigation committee formed to look into irregularities in the admission process reportedly found evidence of the illegal admission of 16 students.

Sources said Dr. Masud Rana was also served a show-cause notice by the university administration in connection with the matter. At the time, he reportedly served as the Member Secretary of a committee responsible for OMR-related activities during the admission examination.

Against this backdrop, questions have been raised by a section of teachers and students over whether the allegations and the status of the investigation have been fully resolved before his promotion proposal is considered by the Syndicate.

His academic qualifications have also been discussed within university circles. According to information cited by sources, his undergraduate CGPA was 3.31. However, whether he fulfilled all the qualifications and recruitment requirements applicable at the time of his appointment should be clarified through official university records and statements from the administration.

Dr. Masud Rana also served as the General Secretary of the Bangabandhu–Neel faction, according to university-related information.

Meanwhile, questions have also been raised regarding the possible promotion of Dr. Kamal Uddin. Allegations have surfaced that he was served a show-cause notice following an investigation into alleged irregularities and corruption at the university.

The final findings of that investigation, whether the allegations were formally resolved, and whether the matter has any bearing on his promotion remain subjects of interest within the university community.

A student, speaking on condition of anonymity, said allegations or ongoing disciplinary issues involving teachers should be addressed transparently before decisions on promotion are made. The student also stressed the importance of following university rules, considering investigation reports and ensuring accountability in the promotion process.

However, receiving a show-cause notice or facing an allegation does not, by itself, establish that a person is guilty of wrongdoing. The final findings of the relevant investigations and the official position of the university authorities are therefore important in assessing the matters.

The university community is now watching closely to see what decision the 91st Syndicate meeting ultimately takes regarding the promotion proposals of the two teachers.
