A recently published study has revealed that 94.8% of the online reactions to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s recent phone calls and other statements were negative. Out of this, only 5.2% of the reactions were positive. This study has emerged as a significant issue in the political context of Bangladesh, where it clearly reflects how negative public opinion is towards Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s statements.
The study, conducted by the Strategy and Policy Forum (SPF), analyzed the reactions to Sheikh Hasina’s phone calls and statements from several media outlets, including Prodhan Alo, Kalbela News, ATN News, and YouTube channels. The researchers collected the comments published online using ‘Natural Language Processing’ (NLP) technology and determined their sentiment. Through this method, negative, positive, and neutral comments were analyzed.
The study revealed that most online users made negative and hateful comments towards Sheikh Hasina’s statements, which may be an indication of the current political situation in the country and the frustration and dissatisfaction of the people. In particular, the recent phone calls and other statements by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have increased the unrest of citizens and the public’s distrust of the government, which is clearly reflected in these negative reactions.
Strategy and Policy Forum Director (Marketing) Md. Mehedi Hasan commented, “This study paints a clear picture of the public’s attitude. The widespread negative reaction to Sheikh Hasina’s phone calls and statements is a reflection of the political situation in the country and the internal anger of the people.”
In addition, Forum Director (Public Relations), Mahbub Nahid said, “We want to convey through this study that there is no more public support for Sheikh Hasina. However, her talk needs to be stopped. If no effective action is taken by the government in this regard, the public’s anger may increase further. The government should deal with it diplomatically. “
The study revealed that most of the negative reactions were about dissatisfaction with Sheikh Hasina, corruption, and non-implementation of election promises. Several comments have even raised questions about Sheikh Hasina’s leadership, highlighting the country’s political instability and lack of good governance.
