Dhaka has launched an investigation into the billions of taka that were smuggled out of Bangladesh during the previous Awami League government. The Governor of Bangladesh Bank is accused of lying to 47 MPs of the UK’s All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) while investigating this money.
A report in the British newspaper The Guardian stated that British MPs had received suspicious emails about Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan Mansur. The top official of Bangladesh Bank is currently based in London.
There, he is seeking the cooperation of the UK government and various private organizations in tracing the vast wealth smuggled out of Bangladesh. After the fall of the Hasina government, he took over as the governor of the central bank of Bangladesh.
A group of 47 MPs from the UK’s All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) received some emails before their meeting with Ahsan Mansur on Monday. The sender, who claimed to be a journalist, sent a link to a website called International Policy Digest, which contained articles about Mansur’s daughter’s blatant display of wealth and questioned why she was not being investigated.
Mansur told the All-Party Parliamentary Group that the emails were part of a coordinated disinformation campaign. He added that his daughter was a US citizen with little connection to Bangladesh.
The reality is different. While he was working at the IMF, his daughter was born in the United States, which is illegal under his government contract employment. Multiple sources have said that it is not possible for him to have a child in the United States under these circumstances. Did the Governor of Bangladesh Bank lie to British MPs? He also lied about his daughter’s lack of ties to Bangladesh, which he told MPs. Before the age of 20, she had attempted to establish herself as a restaurant owner in Dhaka. On September 24, 2020, the Narcotics Control Department raided Mehreen Sara Mansur’s Horse and Horse restaurant in Gulshan and seized a large amount of foreign liquor. Ahsan H. Mansur spoke out on behalf of his daughter soon after the raid. Mehreen Sara Mansur owns multiple restaurants in Bangladesh.
A recent investigation by the international magazine Policy Digest found that the names of several important Bangladeshi business entrepreneurs were omitted from the list of owners of hidden assets in Dubai that was published in the media. Mehreen Sara Mansur is one of them.
Policy Digest said that the author of the report on the luxurious life of Governor Ahsan Mansur’s daughter did not agree to reveal her name. They also said that they are confident that the content of the article is sufficiently truthful.
According to a report by Policy Digest, one of Mehreen Sara Mansur’s necklaces costs 50,000 US dollars. In Bangladeshi taka, that’s 6.15 million. One of her bags costs 10,000 US dollars, which is 1.23 million in Bangladeshi taka. She owns a luxurious flat in the United Arab Emirates. There are expensive cars. She also has a four-story house made of glass and steel in Washington, DC, along with investments in Dubai, London, and the United States.
The name of this woman living such a luxurious life in Dubai is Mehreen Sarah Mansur. She is the daughter of Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H. Mansur.
