Police arrested BM Mozammel Haque, organising secretary of the Awami League and former lawmaker from the Shariatpur-1 constituency, from Dhaka’s Niketan area this afternoon.

Acting on a tip-off, A team from the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested Mozammel around 2:45pm, said Muhammad Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner (Media & Public Relations) of the DMP.

According to DB sources, Mozammel is accused in eight cases, including a murder case related to the July uprising, filed with various police stations under DMP.

DC Talebur added that legal proceedings are currently underway.
