Smokers, drug users barred from applying for govt primary teacher post

Candidates with a habit of smoking or using drugs have been declared ineligible for assistant teacher positions in government primary schools.

The restriction was announced in a recruitment circular issued yesterday by the Directorate of Primary Education (DPE).

The circular said, “Applicants with a habit of smoking or using any form of drugs need not apply.”

According to the notice, the DPE will recruit 10,219 assistant teachers across the Rajshahi, Rangpur, Sylhet, Khulna, Barishal, and Mymensingh divisions.

Online applications will be accepted from November 8 to 21. Candidates must be permanent residents of their respective upazilas and aged between 21 and 32 years as of November 30.

The minimum qualification required is a second-class honours degree or equivalent CGPA — 2.25 on a 4-point scale or 2.8 on a 5-point scale. Those with a third division or equivalent grades at any level will be disqualified.

The position falls under Grade-13 of the national pay scale, offering a monthly salary between Tk 11,000 and Tk 26,590.

Applications must be submitted through http://dpe.teletalk.com.bd, with a Tk 112 fee payable via Teletalk.

Recruitment will follow the Primary School Teacher Recruitment Rules, 2023, and comply with the High Court’s directive issued on November 2. Appointments will be made on an upazila basis, the circular added.
