BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is receiving medical treatment, said her personal physician and BNP Standing Committee member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain.

He was speaking to reporters at a press briefing in front of Evercare Hospital around 12:30pm today.

He sought blessings from all and urged people not to spread rumours, requesting media to run news on her health only based on information shared by him.

Zahid also said that the issue of sending Khaleda abroad depends entirely on her overall physical improvement and the decision and recommendation of the medical board.

A specialised medical team from the UK will arrive today to assess her condition, he added.

Khaleda, 80, has long suffered from heart problems, liver and kidney issues, diabetes, lung infections, arthritis, and eye-related illnesses. She also has a permanent pacemaker and previously underwent stenting for her heart.

She was admitted to Evercare Hospital on November 23 and shifted to the CCU on November 27.
