Students of Dhaka College and Ideal College, who had earlier reached a “peace agreement” a month ago to end violence and “foster brotherhood”, were again locked in a clash this morning.

Panic spread in Science Lab and nearby areas as students chased one another and hurled bricks.

Additional police forces were deployed to bring the situation under control.

The clash erupted when some Ideal College students allegedly threw bricks at a bus carrying Dhaka College students near Labaid Hospital, said Mohammad Aiyub, officer-in-charge of New Market Police Station.

“We managed to bring the Dhaka College students back to their campus. Ideal College falls under the jurisdiction of Kalabagan Police Station, and police there are trying to bring the situation under control,” he added.

The reason behind the renewed clash could not be determined immediately.

Frequent confrontations among students of Dhaka College, Ideal College and Dhaka City College — particularly in the Science Lab area — have often caused traffic disruptions and public suffering.

To address the issue, then officer-in-charge of New Market Police Station, AKM Mahfuzul Haque, organised a “Peace Agreement Ceremony” at Dhaka College between Dhaka College and Ideal College students on November 9.
