The Biman flight carrying BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and his family is expected to depart London at 6:15pm Bangladesh time on Wednesday and arrive in Dhaka around noon (12:00pm) the following day (Thursday).
Tarique Rahman will be given a reception by BNP policymakers.
Tarique is then expected to travel by road to another, presumably bigger, reception at Purbachal’s 300 Feet. According to reports, party leaders and activists will line both sides of the road to greet him. The BNP leader is expected to give a speech at the reception.
Following the speech, Tarique will visit his ailing mother, the BNP chief, Khaleda Zia at Evercare Hospital in Bashundhara.
He is then expected to go to Feroza, his residence in Gulshan, which has also been Khaleda’s residence.
Tarique may visit his father’s grave on December 26 subject to security conditions and later travel to Bogura to submit his nomination papers for the 13th parliamentary election. He will contest from Bogura-6.
According to reports BNP expects about five million members and activists in Dhaka on the occasion. There will be special arrangements to bring its supporters to Dhaka from across Bangladesh.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police: No advisory or directives regarding traffic diversion as of noon December 24.
Dhaka airport: Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport authorities have restricted access to the airport for ticket holders only for 24 hours between 6:00pm on December 24 and 6:00pm December 25 to keep the area free of congestion.
Special train: Bangladesh Railway will operate 10 special trains to bring BNP supporters to the capital, earning around Tk 36 lakh.
