National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary, the 11-party alliance candidate for Dhaka-8, has filed an application with the Election Commission, seeking a recount of votes in the constituency, alleging widespread rigging and procedural irregularities. The petition, submitted today by NCP leader Kazi Fakhrul Islam on behalf of Patwary, also called for suspension of the declared winner’s oath-taking.In the complaint, Patwary raised 11 specific allegations concerning irregularities at 12 polling centres, supported by claims of misconduct and procedural violations.According to the application, Bangladesh Nationalist Party candidate Mirza Abbas Uddin Ahmed, along with party leaders, activists, polling agents and family members, was involved in rigging votes, exerting undue influence, delaying the announcement of results, and including rejected ballots in the final tally. The petition further alleged that presiding officers at several polling centres, as well as the returning officer, later became “complicit” in the irregularities, resulting in Mirza Abbas being declared the winner instead of Patwary.

Patwary urged the Election Commission to investigate the allegations thoroughly and take appropriate action in accordance with existing election laws and regulations.
