Barishal-1 Member of Parliament Zahir Uddin Swapan has been entrusted with the দায়িত্ব of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in the newly formed government following the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
The swearing-in ceremony of the new cabinet members was held on Tuesday (February 17) at around 4:00 pm at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. In accordance with the Constitution, the President administered the oath to the ministers.Earlier in the day, newly elected Members of Parliament took oath at the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat at approximately 10:45 am. The oath was administered by Chief Election Commissioner A.M.M. Nasir Uddin.
Swapan is a senior leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). He previously served as Convener of the party’s Media Cell and was a member of the advisory council to former BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Born in Sarikal village under Gournadi upazila in Barishal, Swapan was first elected as a Member of Parliament from Barishal-1 constituency in the 6th National Parliamentary Election in 1996 as a BNP candidate. He was re-elected from the same constituency in the 8th National Parliamentary Election in 2001.He has also served as Chief Editor of BNP’s Communication Cell and currently holds the position of Director at Bangladesh Nationalist Research and Communications (BNRC).
