A citizens’ protest rally was held today in front of Rupali Bank’s head office in the capital, demanding the removal of Rupali Bank Managing Director (MD) Kazi Wahidul Islam and an investigation into allegations raised against him.

The rally began at 11:30 AM and was attended by people from various professions and walks of life. Speakers emphasized the importance of ensuring transparency, accountability, and good governance in state-owned banks and financial institutions. They alleged that questions and concerns regarding Rupali Bank’s administration, recruitment, promotions, and financial management have been raised for a long time in both mainstream and social media. They called for an impartial investigation into these issues.

The speakers stated that, in line with the spirit of the July Movement, a more accountable and discrimination-free administrative system should be established in state institutions. They argued that allegations of corruption, nepotism, or abuse of power in public institutions should be investigated promptly and appropriate actions should be taken.

Several demands were presented at the rally, including: a fair investigation into the allegations related to Rupali Bank, legal action against those found responsible, ensuring transparency in recruitment and promotions within state-owned banks, establishing a professional and accountable administrative structure, and guaranteeing a discrimination-free working environment for officers and employees.

The speakers emphasized that the program was not organized under the banner of any political party; rather, it was a citizen-led initiative aimed at promoting good governance, accountability, and reform in state institutions.

At the end of the rally, participants urged the relevant authorities to take immediate steps to implement their demands.
