BGB foils BSF bid to push 20 people into Bangladesh

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today said it foiled an attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to push 20 people into Bangladesh through the Chouka border area in Chapainawabganj.According to a BGB press release, the incident took place at around 6:50am in the area under the Chouka Border Outpost of Mahananda Battalion (59 BGB).

BGB said a BSF team attempted to push the 20 individuals into Bangladesh, which was immediately resisted by a BGB patrol and local residents, preventing the alleged intrusion.Following the incident, a flag meeting was held between company commanders of the two forces. As per the decision reached at the meeting, the individuals were taken back through the adjacent Sukhdebpur area near border pillar 178/3-S, the statement said.The BGB release said it had been a complete prevention of the attempted push-in.

Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury, commander of Mahananda Battalion (59 BGB), confirmed the incident.

He said BGB has increased border patrols and surveillance to prevent push-ins and illegal border crossings. “We will continue such efforts with heightened vigilance in the future.”
