Madaripur, July 2: Anvir Bashundhara Group Foundation (ABG Foundation) has extended financial assistance for the treatment of an elderly man who had been found abandoned on a roadside in Madaripur. Following media coverage of his plight, the man’s family was also able to locate him and take him back home.
According to local sources, 70-year-old Hemayet Molla had been lying in a helpless condition for several days beside a road in the Panichatra area of Madaripur town. Due to old age, illness, and physical weakness, he was unable to move properly. Although passersby provided him with food and water, his identity remained unknown.
Later, volunteers of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, local youths, and journalists rescued him and admitted him to Madaripur Sadar Hospital.
After a report on his condition was published in Bangladesh Pratidin, the Anvir Bashundhara Group Foundation (ABG Foundation) came forward on Wednesday with financial support for his medical treatment.
The news report also enabled the elderly man’s relatives to identify and locate him. They arrived at Madaripur Sadar Hospital and confirmed that Hemayet Molla is a resident of Banargati Al-Amin Kandi village in Shyamnagar Upazila of Khulna district.
In the presence of hospital Social Services Officer Shyamal Pandey and District Probation Officer B.M. Asaduzzaman, Hemayet Molla was formally handed over to his sons, Tarek Hossain Molla and Faruk Molla, along with his grandson Monirul Islam, who took him back home.
Shyamal Pandey, Social Services Officer at Madaripur Sadar Hospital, said the family was able to trace the elderly man after the news report was published. He also praised the ABG Foundation for providing financial assistance for the patient’s treatment, describing the initiative as a commendable humanitarian gesture.
District Probation Officer B.M. Asaduzzaman also appreciated the foundation’s support, saying its timely intervention set a positive example of corporate social responsibility and compassion for vulnerable people.
Expressing gratitude, Hemayet Molla’s son, Tarek Hossain Molla, thanked the Anvir Bashundhara Group Foundation for standing by his father during his difficult time. He also expressed appreciation to Bangladesh Pratidin and the journalists involved for publishing the report, which helped reunite his father with the family.
