Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi has said that New Delhi is eagerly looking forward to welcoming Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to India, expressing hope that the visit will take place in the near future.

He made the remarks while speaking to reporters on Wednesday after holding separate meetings with Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka.

Responding to a question about the possible visit, Trivedi said that the timing of the Prime Minister’s trip to India is entirely a matter of the Bangladeshi Prime Minister’s own decision and priorities. However, he emphasized that India is fully prepared and keen to receive him.

“We are sincerely looking forward to welcoming the Head of the Government of Bangladesh to India, and we hope the visit will materialize very soon,” the High Commissioner said.

When asked about a possible timeline for the visit, Trivedi reiterated that the final decision rests with the Prime Minister of Bangladesh and will depend on his priorities.

The 18th BRICS Summit is scheduled to be held in New Delhi on September 12–13. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to attend the summit as a special guest.
