Unit synchronised with national grid today after outage lasting nearly 84 hours

Adani Power’s Godda Unit 2 has resumed supplying electricity to Bangladesh after being shut down due to a technical fault, easing pressure on the country’s strained power system after nearly 84 hours.The 800MW unit was synchronised with Bangladesh’s national grid at around 12:04pm today, allowing it to resume power supply.The unit has just been synchronised. It will take some time to reach full production,” he said.The unit was successfully lit up at 5:17am, ahead of schedule, according to an Adani Power source. Its output is expected to gradually increase as the plant completes the restart process.The outage had added to pressure on Bangladesh’s power system since Thursday midnight. The power shortfall exceeded 3,000MW at one point on Thursday night.

The situation eased on Friday as electricity demand fell, but load shedding increased to up to 3,100MW around midnight, the PRO said.

The return of the 800MW unit is expected to ease pressure on the grid further as its generation increases.The Bangladesh Power Development Board is currently producing around 13,000MW to 14,000MW against demand of 16,000MW to 17,000MW.
