The Election Commission has so far announced results from 10 departments and one faculty in the Jagannath University Central Students’ Union (JnUcsu) election.

While the Chhatra Dal–Chhatra Odhikar-backed candidate is ahead in the vice-president (VP) race, the Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed Odommo Jobian Oikya Parishad panel is leading in the two other top posts overall.

As of 11:45am today, AKM Rakib, the VP candidate of the Chhatra Dal–Chhatra Odhikar-backed panel, was leading by 111 votes.

According to results from the 11 centres, Rakib secured 1,142 votes, while his closest rival, Shibir-backed VP candidate Riazul Islam, received 1,031 votes.

In the general secretary (GS) race, Shibir-backed candidate Abdul Alim Arif was leading with 1,101 votes, compared to 570 votes for Chhatra Dal-backed candidate Khadijatul Kobra.

For the assistant general secretary (AGS) post, Shibir-backed candidate Masud Rana secured 1,020 votes, while Chhatra Dal-backed candidate Atikur Rahman Tanjil received 898 votes.

Although the Shibir-backed panel is leading in the GS and AGS posts and most of the secretary positions, the Chhatra Dal-backed panel is ahead in the library secretary and cultural secretary posts. Several Chhatra Dal-backed candidates are also in a strong position in the executive member races.

Counting in the JnUcsu election was suspended for a prolonged period due to technical issues. Although the process later resumed using both manual and machine methods, election officials have yet to complete the count.

Counting restarted at around 12:45am early today, nearly six hours after it was halted. However, by 11:45am today, results from only 11 centres had been finalised, leaving votes from 28 centres still to be counted.

Results have so far been announced from the departments of anthropology, public administration, geography, pharmacy, computer science and engineering (CSE), microbiology, finance, genetic engineering and philosophy, as well as the Faculty of Fine Arts.
