People in Bangladesh are searching for elections about 3.5 times more than reforms, a study has found. The study by the Strategy and Policy Forum (SPF) found that in the last three months (December 18, 2024 to March 18, 2025), according to Google Search Trends, 77.7% of Bangladeshi internet users searched for elections, while only 22.3% searched for reforms.

According to the research report, this difference in people’s interest is explained by the current political context and the discussion centered on the upcoming elections.

Mahbub Nahid, Director (Public Relations) of the Strategy and Policy Forum, said, “In Bangladesh, the common people are giving more importance to elections than political reforms. One of the reasons for this is that people believe that democracy is the main condition for a country to move forward.”

Eng. Asif Hossain Rachi, another Director (Administration) of the Strategy and Policy Forum, believes that “Although there is a discussion about the need for political reforms in the country, it is never in conflict with elections. Reform is an ongoing process.”

The study was analyzed using Google search trend data, where daily search rates are compared. The organization believes that this research can provide important guidance for political parties, especially those who want to determine policies based on public opinion.
