Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ), India’s largest integrated transport utility and leading port developer and operator, has crossed the historic milestone of handling 500 million tonnes of cargo.

The company achieved this landmark at the beginning of April, highlighting the strength of India’s infrastructure-driven economic growth. APSEZ is now aiming to increase its cargo handling capacity to 1 billion tonnes by 2030 through various expansion initiatives. This achievement reflects not only quantitative success but also the company’s long-term vision, efficient management, and commitment to building a world-class logistics platform aligned with national development goals. Since starting its journey in 1998 as a single port project, APSEZ has grown into a vast network of 19 ports and terminals across India and overseas.

Chairman of the Adani Group, Gautam Adani, said ports are not just gateways for trade but also gateways to national confidence, competitiveness, and the future. He thanked customers, partners, and members of the APSEZ family for their dedication and trust in achieving this milestone, as well as the central and state governments for their policy support. He further added that crossing the 500-million-tonne mark reflects the group’s long-term confidence in India’s growth. According to him, APSEZ has built not only ports but also an integrated transport and logistics platform that includes ports, railways, roads, trucking, warehouses, and cargo gateways.

The journey to 500 million tonnes highlights a story of increasing efficiency and capacity. It took 16 years for the company to reach its first 100 million tonnes of cargo handling. However, each subsequent 100 million tonnes was achieved faster, demonstrating the platform’s growth and operational strength.Currently, APSEZ operates 15 ports and terminals along India’s west, south, and east coasts. The company also has a fleet of 127 vessels, 12 multi-modal logistics parks, 3.1 million square feet of warehouse space, and a network of more than 25,000 trucks.

At present, APSEZ has an annual cargo handling capacity of about 633 million tonnes and manages nearly 28 percent of India’s total port cargo volume. The company plans to reach the 1-billion-tonne milestone by 2030.
