Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman today called on President Md Shahabuddin and Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and shared insights and key points from various discussions held during his recent visit to China.
In addition, there was an extensive exchange of views on the overall law and order situation in the country and the role of the army in its improvement, said an ISPR press release.
In the meetings, the army chief assured that the Bangladesh Army will continue to provide full support to improve the law and order situation and ensure public safety.
The release added that he briefed the president and the chief adviser on the ongoing internal development activities of the army and its future plans.
Meanwhile, in a statement, Chief Adviser’s Press Wing said that Prof Yunus emphasised the need to streamline this role, including a clearly defined command structure and close coordination among all forces in the coming months leading up to the elections.
He said, “I have made a solemn commitment to the nation to deliver an election that would stand out in terms of voter turnout, participation of new and women voters, global confidence in safety and security, and its atmosphere as a celebration of democracy and rule of law.”
The statement added that General Waker, in turn, assured the chief adviser of his full cooperation with the interim government. He also urged Prof Yunus not to pay attention to rumours circulating around.
“The entire army is committed to making the government successful in all its initiatives and programmes,” he said.
